What’s the story?

A 10K race across the Ben Franklin Bridge between Camden, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA, for Larc School, a special education school in Bellmawr, NJ.

Does it say “inclusion”?
“Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge”.
From the event website: Cooper University Health Care and Norcross Foundation are the name sponsors. It is “presented by” a third sponsor.

Photos of kids in wheelchairs are the B-roll of the story, of course, provided by the school or parents. Video of the runners and adults who were interviewed are the primary subjects.

This is a running fundraiser for people who can’t run.

Norcross Foundation is the charitable arm of an insurance brokerage firm in Camden, NJ.

Projects and partners of the foundation related to developmental disabilities as of 2019 include:
1. Eagle Autism Challenge in Philadelphia, a project of the NFL football team.
2. Special Olympics of Massachusetts.
3. Special Olympics of Pennsylvania.

Larc School is described as a special education school, which means none of the students are learning alongside their nondisabled peers.

What needs to change?

Fundraisers for the disabled must include the disabled.

This is for a special education school, which is a segregated setting.
